Lost Dutchman Mine

 

Region:  Located East of Phoenix with Apache Junction being the nearest city.

Story:  There are many resources and stories regarding the Lost Dutchman Mine, so I will not go into detail here.  The story tells of Jacob Waltz “The Lost Dutchman”, arriving in the United States from Germany during the California gold rush hoping to strike his fortune with no luck.  He later moved to Arizona and spent some time in Wickenburg working at the Vulture Mine.  The legend revolves around the Dutchman finding a rich gold mine in the Superstition mountains.  Stories tell of him leaving town for a few days and returning with substantial amounts of gold.  Jacob past away and did not leave much to go on to find the location but enough to become the “The Lost Dutchman Mine” superstition.

 

The legend of the mine draws many treasure hunters to the high desert temperatures and the Superstition mountains in hopes of finding the illusive gold mine.  The stories are intriguing and kindle the gold fever in each of us.  Have fun and be safe out there.
