The Maynard District, valued a t $120,000.00 by Mr. Full, was an ill-defined area located on the northeastern slope of the Hualapai Mountains. The district was organized in 1871 and there were five, properties upon which sufficient development work had been done prior to January 4, 1883, to justify individual evaluation. They were the American Flag, Antelope, Dean, Mariposa and Hississippi mines. The most valuable, in Mr. Full's appraisal, was the American Flag Mine ($75,000.00). It was located in 1872 and was a productive mine.
What you will see today: Mine waste dump on the hillside, some old concrete foundations, old cast iron stove, and parts of an old steam engine.
Comments: In 2013, a fire was started by a lightning strike in the canyon where the mine is located. The fire burned much of the canyon and area around the mine. There were a few small toppled wooden structures that were consumed by the fire.
